Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She reported on a variety of interesting stories such as arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively together with the President Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
